10 years ago, according to the 2001 census The population of Rochdale was.

78.7% - White
0.3 % - Black
and
19.9 % Asian
(19.1 % Muslim)

In at least 9 schools across the town, 70 per cent of the children speak English as a foreign language. In one school, Heybrook Primary, where every single one of 520 children is Asian, the figure is 100 per cent.

The white population, according to the council's own figures, is declining by about 5,000 people a decade.

Meanwhile, the size of the ethnic minority population has doubled in 10 years to 33,650, including more than 27,000 people who originate from Pakistan

In the 2010 General Elections. (58% turnout)

Simon Danczuk - Labour (even after Brown and the Bigot Bullshit) = 16699 votes.

Paul Rowen - Liberal Democrat (The Racist party) = 15810 votes

Mudasir Dean - Conservative = 8305 votes

Chris Jackson - NATIONAL FRONT = 2236 votes

Colin Denby - UKIP = 1999 votes

Mr Mohammed Salim - Islam Zinda Baad = 545 votes
(I am sure he hopes to have that many grandchildren one day)

John Whitehead - Independent = 170 votes



The ConDem coalition took control BUT

Amidst accusations of racism,8 (or was it 9?) LibDem councillors resigned.
Councillor Mohammed Shariff ,who represents Milkstone and Deeplish said ...

"I have made it very clear in the email I sent to the chief executive that one of the reasons I am resigning is that certain Lib Dem councillors are racist and nothing has been done about them."

and that racism has been going on for up to four years and that during the recent local elections a Lib Dem Councillor made a racist remark and was not reprimanded.
