That could actually happen if there was any honest economic growth. The only reason to build kick-ass skyscrapers is demand for office and living space - which can exist only if there are successful and useful companies who provide goods, services and jobs needed for society to develop.

Well, it is possible. But it rather won't happen, not in the West at least.

the hardware and architecture of the world does take a long time to evolve unfortunately but we can expect the software and interior of buildings evolve quickly, like video games in 2020 will be much realer, websites will be amazingly different, but the whole infrastructure itself takes a little longer, but still the world in 2020 will be different, no doubt.
