  • Wow! This is my favourite way to HEAR the Gospel, and to be enabled to SEE it so clearly...in the overview, and the clarifying self-affirming intention of God's Self revelation. This reminds me of the way that the late Maj. W. Ian Thomas used to preach (at Kestwick meetings) and other places also. Jesus IS Lord....the Incarnation of the I AM.....and the truth about all of the I AM s of His own....Door, Shepherd, Truth, Bread of Life....and the others. Such an encouraging message for today

  • @buggeron22 I think a lot of people underestimate the Old Testament when it comes to Jesus. There's just no way you can get the full story of our Lord without it.

  • your point sounds very condescending... what exactly is the matter at all with the of Gospel of Matthew 'establishing the bloodline to Abraham, so that Jesus can be claimed to be the Messiah.'

If Jesus, does in fact, rise to the requirements of the Hebrew scriptures I can see nothing disconcerting about Matthew demonstrating this to reader... The way you write seems to imply that some sinister plot is afoot when nothing warrants this. God promised Abraham his seed would bless the WORLD

  • Matthew is NOT "introducing Jesus" in chapter 1. He is establishing the bloodline to Abraham, so that Jesus can be claimed to be the Messiah. Since Hebrew legend holds that the savior of the Jews has to be from the paternal bloodline of the ancient prophets. Jesus can't be considered potentially the "messiah" in Old Testament terms unless that blood line is unbroken.

  • @rfvidz So sorry, I only just today have been aware of your response ! Thanks for sharing ! I do so agree that this is true. Yes, the Old prepares for the New and the two are immensely collaborative and clarifying of each other ! Sadly, many people never really see the over-arching narrative of God's love and grace to usward. Shalom !

  • @rfvidz Very very true. Reading NT Wright's Christian Origins series really drove that home for me. Its stunning how alive the new testament becomes when one puts on 'covenant lenses.' NT Wright's focus on the Jewish STORY and how Christianity fit into that story made it seem like I was seeing Christianity for the first time.
