The fifth and final part of the voting for the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, presented by Pat Kenny & Michelle Roca in Dublin, Ireland. The video also includes the awarding and the reprise of the winning song.

Host Pat Kenny (at the end of the previous part): "We have a very close situation [...] It's five points in it, I can tell you, between the United Kingdom and Switzerland [...] So it's all to play for, and everything depends on Yugoslavia..."

What follows is one of the most unbelievable, breathtaking moments in all of Eurovision history (even the usually aloof Terry Wogan was at a loss for words here), so I have nothing better to say than... Enjoy! :-)

  • I don't get this at all. How does Celine win a Eurovision when she isn't a European??

  • @tegrat1122 There 's no restriction about the nationality of the singers in Eurovision - that is, anyone (even a non-European, like Celine) can represent any country.

  • The finish to this voting is truly timeless, isn't it? Still my heart races up to that point, and leaps when the final vote is announced. And I have seen this many, many times.

  • @setheurovision94 Yes, it's the same for me too. I mean, you couldn't make such an ending up - it's so cinematical in it being the amazingly thrilling conclusion to an already suspenseful proceeding, it practically begs to be adapted into a movie script (just pay me my rights for the idea when it's done) :-P

  • I so love the ending. Look at the gestures, Look how the cup is taken from her to be given to the song writer... She's treated like she's nothing.

    She earned a momento... lol

  • I love how Terry Wogan shocked after the null point for the UK!

  • Celine did get a momento... LOL

Funny to see everyone around her during the price delivery treat her like bullshit.

  • Only 20 yrs old at the time, she did amazing :)

  • @tegrat1122 It has nothing to do, there´s no rule that keeps non-europeans from representing an european country at the contest. Actually Spain got runner-up in 1979 with a peruvian singer.

  • The closeist finish in Eurovision History

  • Jeez, Finland and Austria must have sucked.

  • @missuniworld OMG, I didn't know that Nella Martinetti died... I'm so sad... RIP Nella, she wrote the lyrics of my favourite Eurovision song, "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi"...

  • well that was eurovision. Today is so... so.... byak!

  • Celine definitely was the best singer in that contest and now shes the best singer in the world! :)
