Veteran Jared Hood, of Iraq Veterans Against the War recites his poem, "Lightening".
Jared served four years in the Army. Two as a reservist and two in the COARNG. He applied for Conscientious objector, however when his unit refused to give him bereavement leave for a family death, he made the conscious decision to go AWOL. He was apprehended at work on June 22 and demoted to PFC. I Then fought this unauthorized and unwarranted arrest and secured an honorable separation. He is currently in the IRR. He came From a military family; his father fought 1 tour in Vietnam.
He considers himself a Political activist, working with campus women's rights and Anti-racist action groups. He has worked extensively with soldiers returning from Iraq and a very close friend of his was killed April 23, 2003 in Nasirya Iraq. He is the Denver chapter president and Mountain regional coordinator for IVAW.
