See our EmeraldEcoCity website for more details. As global population explodes, and forest destruction technology esclates rapidly, we are eliminating Earth's ability to sequester carbon dioxide, release oxygen to breathe, and control global warming. We MUST terminate slash-and-burn deforestation, AND the use of wood in all buildings. By Larry Hartweg Zero Energy Design® ZEDmaster@ZeroEnergyDesign.com

  • Hey, Planting a tree is a lot of fun !

I can tell you that much.

  • Is Soy ink process is a method of producing a printing ink from vegetable oil rather than mineral oil?

What specifically does that have to do with tree harvesting and paper making?

  • Absolutely, it is imperitive that mature trees and established old growth forests are protected. But recycling paper does not do this. Trees cut for paper and softwood construction timber are fast growing trees about 10 years old from renewable sustainable purpose grown forests. The information gained is from the UK and US forestry commissions. Information freely available on the net.

  • Where did you get your information from regarding the amount of trees in the US and the UK?

Even if these numbers are true. We must remember that large mature trees have effects and advantages which young small trees can not do.

There are soy ink processes and the numbers of users is growing.

The bottom line is the way we are cutting down large trees is not sustainable. The effects of cutting down most large trees will have drastic effects.

  • What a load of un-educated nonsense!

Recyclng paper does not save trees, all trees felled to make paper come from carefully managed renewable forests.

In the US there are 20% more trees than 30 years ago because of this.

In the UK our forestry has more than doubled since the second world war.

Trees are an organic renewable, sustainable resource.

Recycling paper reduces the amount of trees planted and causes a great deal of pollution in de-inking and transportation.

  • However Recycling paper DOES use less energy than virgin papermaking, but this energy is FOSSIL FUEL DERIVED; whereas virgin paper mills use the parts of the tree that cannot be used to make paper to creat carbon neutral energy and modern mills are self sufficient in this clean power (some even sell their excess energy to their national grid)

Recycling paper to save trees is like not eating bread to save wheat!

Use more paper and plant bigger forests I say.
