@Fletch828 Actually, I recently heard a story about this Filipino guy who is a friend of my fencing school's second teacher. He got a knife pulled on him, because the criminal would've been up for a death sentence already, and stabbed at this guy's stomach. He successfully pulled a break from Fiore dei Liberi's 'Flower of Battle'.
So, a trained technique can work.

@pjmabry bcs panic kicks in, adrenalin takes over and you forget what you know (if you don't train for many years) and your opponent puts a greater challenge than a training partner. But still, MA technique CAN be used to overcome your opponent, it just looks sloppier and there are no spectacular falls with feet high in the air mainly because the arm/whatever breaks, bcs opponent doesn't know the correct fall to avoid injury. I respect MMA as a sport, but hate when people regard it as godlike.

@pjmabry If i were to beat my money in a real fight, I would bet on the wing chun/ninjutsu/whatever guy who mainly practices to hit those vital spots that incapacitate and/or kill the opponent(and there are a lot of those spots, excluding the concussion from a strong strike), rather that betting on a MMA guy whose strongest weapon is a knockout to the head with some sort of a power punch/kick. However, it is true that in a real fight these martial art techniques lose their quality, mainly bcs..

@pjmabry I think what jupakal meant to say is, MMA is a sport, it has rules and for gods sake fighters wear gloves, so that the fight can LAST, get it ?? You can't really grab your opponents wrist with both your hands and twist it from the power of your hips, mainly because it's impractical and ineffective bcs of gloves AND bcs it's not allowed (name just one out of many arm/breaking techniques). You can't punch someone in the throat and even if you could, gloves KIND OF make it less deadly.

..and I have trained with SF... as well as cops, SWAT, etc. Most will tell you that in a contest against a trained fighter, all things equal, they would get handled. Their chances improve the more resources they can bring into the fight such as weapons/ improvised or not, other guys and the ability to straight up disengage/ retreat and come back with more backup.
-
@jupakal1941 ... Uhhhhh no. They are not seen because many of the techniques fall apart under pressure and the context is completely different in a competition environment where there is an actual test of skill vs an ambush/ street attack. It's not because the techniques are fatal by themselves... it's because there are a lot less difficult, more reliable and provable ways to win.
-
@jupakal1941 Like you said, and thanks for proving my point, you don't see them, if they were that affective in reality they would be used in mma fights, no holds barred or any of that, since the point is to win. As if some style of taking an opponent out is barred from use, get real. Every marshal art style makes videos that look just like this, but you never see any of the technique used in a real fight against real fighters, maybe some of the moves but never as clean as the videos show.
-
@pjmabry hahaha!!!! MMA?!?!?! ARE YOU SERIOUS???? do you even know why these fighting styles arent used in MMA??? one word for you: FATAL. do you see any krav maga, kali or silat, or even aikido in the MMA? no simply because these techniques are intended to kill, not for sport. you don't believe me? the first three i indicated are classified as the most fatal/lethal forms of fighting. you wanna verify that? go train with your special forces and you'll find out
