WBZ was Boston's highest rated station and News in the 1980s and 1990s. Times have changed. I like the music, the 4 and the globe. A nice retro.

  • Thanks for the info and follow up Robkb1fjr. I am shocked that he was paroled at all!

  • hey burbank, wasn't WCVB the top news in boston in the 90s?

  • I think it was until WHDH Channel 7 stormed forward to the Top after Sunbeam Purchased the Station and revamped its newscast.

  • This was from May 1984, I went back in the Boston Globe Archives.

"William H.J. Douglas, a former associate professor at Tufts Medical School, was sentenced yesterday to 18 to 20 years in prison for killing Robin N. Benedict, a 21-year-old prostitute he bludgeoned with a hammer in the bedroom of his Sharon home 14 months ago."

    From Boston Globe 1984.

  • Wow thaanks for the insight and information. I was wondering who Douglas was. He looked creepy in the clip and would have guessed he was a child molester.

  • Yes, but at the time I posted this comment he wasn't on at 11pm.

  • Um, actually, Jack Williams is back at news desk for the 11:00 newscasts.

  • Not that it matters but he (Douglas) was paroled in 1993 and wrote a book, the Book is going for .01 on Amazon. What makes this case interesting is that they convicted him with no Body ever found, and using methods similar to DNA.

  • This is a much better open than the other one they used before this one. I kid you not, it was a foam version of the "4" logo coming out of boiling water. News junkies call it the "Four-zilla" open.

  • Yes I read that. When the staion was purchased by CBS/Viacom, it went to hell in a handbasket. I enjoyed it more when it was owned by Westinghouse and was an NBC Affiliate. I liked the 4 logo, was unique.
