Beautiful soundtrack by Donovan. Recently found YouTube video "Gigliola Cinquetti - Marcellino pane e vino". Seems like it would have fit in well with this film although uncertain about the words since I don't speak Italian. But by the sound of it. Very beautiful.

Thank you, sourspork. I plan to look up that book by Nikos Kazantzakis you refer to. And agreed, that scene is my favorite in all of film.

Looked up Nikos and his Wikipedia page, sourspork. Not quite the in depth perspective of St. Francis I was looking for. Thanks though. lol

I have found this book really moving. Especially the part where he kisses the leper. It is a book worth reading once, if not many times.
