I tend to agree with this video on the most part. I have a background in New Media, which is essentially the kind of art this video decrees as ugly and useless. After a few years of New Media however, I grew increasingly disatisfied with the lack of skill and technique needed to create the work. Now I'm currently studying traditional Animation. I feel that the techniques I learned in Animation could be translated easily into New Media, creating a work that can be both credible and original.

Oh my God I'm so relieved this video exists... I sometimes feel like some kind of traitor or degenerate for just wanting to make something so it can be pretty....

@JBMontgomery87 That's not quite the case, I'm advocating merely no rules to be set upon art.
There are supposed to be no rules in freedom of expression. But freedom of expression ends there where it undermines exactly this. That's one rule we have to stick to in order to keep that freedom. It just doesn't make sense to keep freedom of speech for people who advocate it's abandonment.
He has valid examples of art I find personally tasteless, but I wouldn't wanna make them standards.

"I think it hopefully allows people to see the world in which they are living in a way that gives it more meaning to them. And it's not the world of an ideal world, of some other world, some better place, but of the here and now, of the world that they're in and are trying to live more at ease within the world that they're given."
His 'piece' is just a glass on a shelf. A GLASS ON A SHELF, people!
(Also: awesome grammar, man. Really.)

@robertsasse Yes, Professor Scruton does appear (more or less) to be declaring some "Art" degenerate, and not worthwhile. But then you seem to be declaring his *opinion* degenerate, and advocating the BBC (a nominally impartial public service broadcaster) not give it a hearing. This can only be because his opinion was not to your subjective taste (it could not be argued that it was voiced without due thought and consideration of the subject matter, after all), so where's the moral difference?

So someone is willing to declare some Art as degenerate Art again.
Very sad to see that something like this can be shown on the BBC. Maybe Roger Scruton wants to hold an exhibition of we thinks is degenerate Art to warn of the dangers.

Finally. If the art prior to uglyness was overrated, now it's just bloody depressive and meaningless. People that call themselves "artists" come to me just as bunch of disturbed asocial idiots. Yes it shocks. Why does that make you happy?

Nu prea am inteles ce te intristeaza...noi suntem toti oamenii de pe planeta asta nu doar noi romanii. Mai important mi se pare sa recunoastem si sa sustinem valorile, oriunde ar fi ele.
