Another exciting clip jigging for Striped Bass. My son Jonathan is reeling in a Striped Bass and then my buddy Rick gets hooked up. Both are using light spinning tackle. I grab the only rod left, a heavy trolling setup, and I too get hooked up. Rick didn't get to hold Jonathan's up but it was 18 lbs. Ricks was 12 lbs and mine was 17 lbs. What a rush! Catching Striped Bass directly under the boat on artificials is a lot of fun!! All fish were released and swam away.

  • What color bucktail are you using?

  • I think we were using blue/chrome and chartreuse/green spoons. It could have been jigs or it could have been both. The color I use will vary on the part of the lake I'm fishing along with visibility. In my lake they'll feed on thread-fin shad, gizzard shad and bluebacks. That means most of the lures we use are black, blue and silver. The chartreuse comes in handy when the water gets stained or muddy.

  • Wow, thanks for the info. I'll try and hit up lanier during those times. are you trolling the main channels? any particular place we should start trolling and looking for fish? I hear that the main channel in front of buford dam is good striper fishing, but then again, it could be hearsay, either way thanks for the reply man.

  • It seems like I can find fish anywhere from Browns Bridge all the way down to the dam. What I usually do is start by the dam and work my way up the channel. I'll go off toward the mouths of some creeks too. I prefer to fish the wide open areas with less trees as these areas present less hazards (trees) so we don't get as many snags. Probably the most important thing I've learned is to use the "prime times". By timing my trips to the best times I'm able to score the most fish.

  • Hey I've been to Lanier a couple of times over the last month or so, just wondering how to fish for striper? What kind of setup and lures are you using? It seems like you're just jigging some sort of a lure, wondering what the bite is on lately. thanks for uploading the video.

  • Right now we're using bucktail jigs, plugs, spoons and soft baits. Pretty much anything. I'm out there 3-4 times a week and try to go at the "prime time" of the day. This seems to be when the fish are biting the best. I'll troll using the lures listed above and once I find fish, I'll jig them with light tackle. A lot of guys struggle catching Striped Bass but if you stay on them, you can figure them out. This has been an awesome season so far and should only get better!
