Extract from Louis Vierne's 2nd Suite pour Orgue performed on the 1938 Haupt (IV/84) symphonic organ of Luxembourg's Cathédrale de Notre Dame (02.05.2007). The cathedral also boasts a fine 1995 Westenfelder (IV/63) classical organ, situated at the rear end of the nave.

  • stupid how people keep fighting over religion and don't respect other beliefs... beautiful organ and cathedral!

  • @EccentricRichard Christianity, as all religions, is man-made myth, fairytale and ridiculous laughable rituals, regardless of whether Vierne got the Westminster Chime correct or not. (Did someone write down and give him the melody? Or did he purposely change it for his marvelous composition?)

Certainly an agnostic, atheist or one of another faith can understand these wonderful works. Don't forget Reger!

  • @robertgift - so Vierne misremembered the Westminster chime, and that proves that Christianity is a load of rubbish? Balderdash. There is so much circumstantial evidence from the time of Christ that proved that he existed, and that he did things utterly beyond the abilities of any mere human, that those who call it all a myth are fooling only themselves. Certainly, you cannot understand Dupré, Duruflé, Alain or Messiaen with no Christian faith.

  • @EccentricRichard Incorrect. One can know the myths upon which these compositions are based without being gulliblenough to believe them. Although, the only Vierne I play is Carillon de Westminster. The Westminster Chime melody is incorrect. (With Catholicism, being correct has never been an issue.)

  • @robertgift - to understand Vierne, or any of the great Parisian organists, you must understand Roman Catholicism, and, arguably, be a Catholic yourself. No atheist can fully understand any of them.

    Ben voila, excellent exemple...

  • Why, organboi?

Nice ending to the magic show.

What is inappropriate is teaching myth and convincing gullibles that the fairytales are TRVTH.

But it sure is wonderful music.

This piece needs a huge live acoustical environment.

  • I love this cathedral, I love this organ!

  • What is so inappropriate about this piece being a postlude?! Our organist has played it... it's a beautiful and fun piece!!
