Saw them in 1956 @aSunday Matinee@The Modern Jazz Room in Chicago with my cousin when I was 13. At first I thought they were a local band sitting in for the M Davis band cause they looked so unbecomng. All were wearing different suits, the trumpeter never taked the tenor's reed kept squeaking, the drummer had only a snare, bass, no tom toms only 1 cymbal & hi-hat. I was all eyes then. When I got all their autographs is when I realized it was THEM! Saw Max Roach Quint the week before to 4 $1.50
