Here's the ABC News Weekend Report that aired on January 20th, 1985. Thanks to my Uncle for recording this.

1. Inauguration '85
2. Inaugural Ceremonies moved indoors due to bitter cold
3. Record-breaking cold weather across the U.S. (I'm very glad I live in a place with very boring, monotonous weather)
4. International Harvest Workers and United Auto Workers Union reach agreement
5. Superbowl XIX Highlights

  • Was it only 10 minutes as broadcast? I'm trying to figure out exactly when this was aired. During the postgame show? After the local news? In the middle of the premiere of the short-lived "MacGruder & Loud"?

  • @MeInTX Yes, this is the full segment. It aired right after the KGO 1/20 newscast.

  • I love that "Parade Canceled" overlay on the Inauguration graphic.

  • It's all sad and frozen! Oh no! :(

  • @MelnTX: ABC used to produce a 15 minute weekend newscast to go after affiliates' late night news (at 10 PM in the central time zone, where I grew up). Smaller market affiliates often only had 15 minutes of local news on weekend nights. This was designed to follow those, although some larger markets ran it after their full 30 minute late newscasts, I believe.

This is a nice reminder of how good ABC News used to be. Thanks!

  • In North Carolina, on this date 25 years ago, the low temperature recorded at Cape Hatteras was 6 degrees fahrenheit, but the high temperature recorded on that date was in the lower 60s. In eastern North Carolina, lows that morning were in the single digits, but bounced back during the afternoon in between the upper 50s to the lower 60s. An unusually lukewarm day in North Carolina back in 1985.

  • In Houston where I live, the temperature never goes below 20 degrees. All we get is cold wind. I wish it would snow over here. Oh well...

  • Obama's inauguration was pretty cold too. I'll always remember thinking that Michelle's legs must have been freezing!

  • Ohh! I totally remember that winter. I think we had a wind chill of like -40deg or something like that in Ohio. Me, my brothers and my mom had to walk like three blocks to the store to get food before they closed. To this day it remains the coldest I have ever been. I think I'm gonna go sit out by the pool and soak up some sun now :-P

  • Wow this is the Weekend edition of Nightline
