So, I messed with it when I didn't know much about it, and not data is lost, I think. I tried to put in sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts this command, but it froze, so i quit the application. When i re-opened it, it didn't say anything like Last login blah blah blah or my username. its just like a blank document. Do you know what I'm supposed to do? I dunno. D:

If you want to open an application from Terminal you need only specify it's location...not the contents of its bundle. For TextEdit you could do: > open /Applications/TextEdit.app
If you need to open a specific file with TextEdit.app then try: > open /Applications/TextEdit.app /mypath/myfile or, in this case > sudo open /Applications/TextEdit.app /etc/hosts

@DyeItToPink If you are using Terminal and do something that causes it to stop working just press CTRL+C to break out of the running command. You should see your command prompt again after doing that.

/applications/utilities is where it should be, if not your going to have to reinstall the OS, but thats only if you really want terminal.
