you may want to try replacing the external enclosure, i got a 1tb seagate that is completely fine after swapping it out, and i bought a second enclosure for my 1.5tb that was clicking and swirling like mad to see if that helps.

I had to return my 1.5TB expansion drive to Maplins and they replaced but now the 2nd unit is showing signs of the same problem, loud clicking noises and taking ages to respond..........BUT I have just discovered that if you turn the unit upside down then it works perfectly! No more clicking sounds! Could it be that the units have been manufactured internally upside down??

It worked perfectly, first time i bent down the tab kept clicking, tried a second time and wrapped the USB with tape now works totally perfect. THANKS!!!

OK as crazy as this sounds, this fix just fixed my 2GB Seagate Expansion drive that's been clicking for over a year now. It was driving me nuts. Many thanks n9jcv!

@styles234 yeah, it's a quite usual problem :)) anyway we could not fix the hd :)) too many bad sectors... not even recognized by computer

THANK YOU!!! THIS 100% WORKS. After following the guide step by step I felt skeptical that some tape and paper would fix the clicking but it totally did. One tip is don't be shy with the tape this didn't work for me at first so I applied more tape and it worked. Five star.
