Duncan Mansfield, of the Associated Press, writes that internet websites have "undermined" the mainstream media by getting out news about the horrific racially motivated torture deaths of Christian and Newsom. Media outlets made similar statements when Internet websites, like cofcc.org, brought attention to racially motivated attacks against whites in the Bronx and Long Beach.

Along with Mansfield, Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen and assistant District Attorney John Gill also try to downplay evidence that the murders were hate crimes. Police Chief Owen claims the murders were not motivated by race, but were simply the result of "carjacking taken too far." However, carjacking charges were dropped last week. The victim's car was not even taken. Seems like the Knoxville authorities are going to great lengths to justify not filing hate crime charges.

I don't understand why people think that all black people would be sympathetic to the perpetrators. I'm black, and truly disgusted and very sad over this. I also don't understand why this didn't get any media coverage, I cannot remember seeing this in the news years ago at all. These kids didn't/don't deserve to be ignored, this is so wicked, I really don't understand what the motivation was, it's beyond my comprehension.

Can someone please tell me how the hell this could NOT be considered a "hate" crime? Please don't tell me it is in retaliation for how blacks were treated during the slave era. I am so tired of hearing that bullshit or for whites keeping the blacks down. Successful black people prove that false. Doesn't matter what the race is here all of the KILLERS should be put to death. Innocent victims were deliberately targeted, carjacked, kidnapped, raped repeatedly, mutilated, abused and murdered.

It didn't start as a hate crime in my opinion, but escalated into one very quickly because of the torture they were put though. I'm glad they got the sentences they did regardless, but I'm unhappy with the double standard of what a hate crime actually is.

Even here it seems a bit biased. I live in Knoxville and remember very well the details being released as the trial went on. The clips and quotes they showed from people here are not the same words they had while the trial was going on. It was very apparent that it was a hate crime and that there was mutilation of the genitals and breasts. It was a sick, sick crime and there was no doubt in anyone's mind as to the motivation.

And the supremest gathering was a disgusting display of bigotry.
