Ugg, thats a real sickly horn on the 2109.
-
Yes the BN 2100 (2nd motor on 1st train) wore a 1/1 paint job.
-
The classic horns
-
the 2nd engine had the rare paint

Never seen a fuel tender like that before. Very odd indeed.
-
haha I have that whole first consist in HO scale, even the tender, which I painted.

@STICKGUYMB Like most western railroad, BN operated through the deserts. So yes, they're trains were long distance trains that would usually have to stop for fuel occasionally... eliminated by this fuel tender.

@trainguy3 More information: BN also did some interesting experiments. At one point, they modified an EMD SD40-2 to use natural gas for power in place of diesel. The experiment is considered a failure, but how much of a failure is how you look at it. In operational terms, the locomotive worked fine. Efficiency is where it failed... since it had to constantly be coupled with the natural gas tank car that fed the gas. Nowadays, it runs on diesel again and is leased by I think... HLCX.
3rd unit is not a gp38, it is a sd40-2

I assume that there is a weight restriction on a bridge or something since the extension cord tank car was placed as an idler car? I enjoy your vids Jack.

@EMTRailfan The tank car is a fuel tender. It feeds fuel to the units, so they don't have to stop for refueling as often. Thanks, and glad you enjoy the vids!
