How to install 8GB of RAM in 2010 MacBook Pro and fix the problem with it freezing when booting the OS. Basically, this occurs if you're trying to use DDR3 1333MHz memory instead of straight 1066MHz memory. What you have to do is flash one of your sticks to the 1066MHz speed using a program called Thaiphoon Burner (http://www.softnology.biz/). I accomplished this via a boot to a pre-installed Windows environment, BartPE (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/).

You can also view a more concise version of the flashing procedure at my blog (http://tylermilner.com/?p=342).
