Continued from comment below...He also has "unholy meltdowns" when something about his numbers doesn't go according to his plan (for instance, if his view of the clock is obstructed when he wants to check the time on the hour).

raenorri, this is very familiar. My 4 year old son is hyper focused on numbers. His favorite activity is to "work" on an excel spreadsheet, and every single thing he's interested in somehow has numbers involved - time and clocks, counting large numbers, measuring distance, calculators, numbers of floors on a building, even his artwork incorporates numbers.

@raenorri I have to agree! They are so easy to shop for! When Holden started showing a strong interest in numbers, he was drawn to our calculator. So we went out & bought him his own $2.50 calc. & it was like love at 1st site! A year or so later, it continues to be a favorite toy of his. And yes, having his own clock in his room, & a clock puzzle w/ moving "hands", keep him busy for long periods. What really amazes me is that he has been captivated by clocks since 15 or 18 months old! So neat:)

My 7 year old son has Aspergers and ADHD. This video really reminds me of him and it is comforting to know we are not alone! He loves to write, write, write.... it makes my own hand hurt to see all the writing but he absolutely loves it. He used to constantly make these long lists of things but now that he is older, he seems to be more focused on computer activities. Cute video!! Thanks for sharing.
Continued from comment below...He started therapy a few weeks ago. I'm going to talk to the therapist about aspergers and hyperlexia. She's been observing him and will be visiting his classroom this week. Thank you for posting these videos of CJ. What a wonderful little boy who reminds me so much of my Reed!

I just had to come over & comment on this video, too :) I am so impressed w/ how well your son writes/draws! Amazing! My son has a fixation w/ numbers as well, but has yet to write them. His fixation is mostly w/ numbers on clocks right now, though. He has been able to count into the 100's since he was 4 & he mastered telling the time on all types of clocks as well. He has to tell me the time constantly, & has to know the time every minute of every day :P Exhausting, but I also love it about him

@mllyk i have met another aspie who said their "special interest" was clocks as a child. CJ's special interests have grown to include several things, but he never lets go completely of something he loves. right now he is really into planets, but he still really loves numbers. aspie kids can be easy to shop for ;) right now if we get him anything to do with the solar system his reaction is like christmas morning all over again. i can imagine your son getting a clock must be very similar. :)
