When you have a gift from God it is supposed to be used for God's glory. Despite Sam Cooke's personal life he brought much glory to God when he sang gospel music . God will always put the "one" greatest on the earth to glorify him. 1 Jimi Hendrix, 1 Bruce Lee , 1 Micheal Jordan , 1 Tiger Woods and the 1 and only Sam Cooke .

Sam Cook....what a tragic lifes story. so much talent....loveable, approachable, sweet and very friendly is what my mother told me about him. she saw him sing as a Soul Stirrer back in the 50's my mom was in her 20's and believe it or not....Sam brought a lot of youngster back to church back then. he was obviously very talented but his youth and good looks had a part to play in it. not taking anything away from his vocals. "song Bird" at times, gritty in the end. i love Sam and alway will.

I was a 10 yr. old boy from Boston when I was introduced to this song by the Soul Stirrers featuring the late Sam Cook. I was also introduced to Milky White Wave by the ABC Trumpeteers at about the same time. It wasn't cool for a white boy from Boston to like black music but I loved every moment of it up to my age of 65. Hope I got some more years left. Thank you, my black brothers and sisters for this enlightenment.

Sam Cooke was and always will be the greatest vocalist of all time!! His voice just reaches something deep down and your soul... My father always played his music in the home when I was a child and now every time I hear that beautiful voice I am reminded of my father (who also had a beautifully spiritual voice). I look forward to the day when I can hear them both sing again in the heavenly choir.

Richie Havens sang a version of this at Wood stock and claimed he made it up on the spot.

This is a song I heard every Sunday growing up in Selma, Al before going to church. Great gospel music.
@mbsunlimited - One Sunday in my 14th year I stopped by my grandmother's house after Sunday school. She was playing a Sam Cooke & The Soul Stirrers album and "Jesus Wash Away My Troubles" came on. It was so awesome I can't even describe its effect. I'm a 65 year old gospel singer and Sam Cooke was my greatest stylistic influence. He was at the highest level and I'm blessed to be part of a choir that is able to keep his spirit alive through his songs. People love to hear his music.
