The New Amtrak Rail Terminal in Connellsville Pennsylvania

The New Amtrak rail terminal in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. It is a very attractive structure but it lacks about everything that a traveler requires. There are no rest rooms...vending machines or pay phones. I know that payphones are nearly a thing of the past now but sometimes they are still very much needed. Sometimes cell phones get lost while traveling or do not have any service. A travel depot should have at least one pay phone. It also lacks fire suppression equipment. The building is very new so perhaps these other items will be added soon. On a positive note the open air structure has a great heating system but one would have to wonder why it was made without a front door. The heating bill will be astronomical. The seats inside leave a bit to be desired as well. They were removed from the old "shanty" station and most of them are faded and torn open from vandalism. This clip was filmed on April 16, 2011.

Great video. They spent millions on this place yet could not justify a little more money for restrooms. It shows what Amtrak really thinks of the town. I think a new restaurant/hotel should be built just across from the new station, next to the Sidewinder's bar. It could have a railroading history type of theme to it, and would attract a lot of railfans to Connellsville just like with Cumberland and Altoona.

Your point is well taken but the Connellsville Police Department is only several hundred feet away. I do understand the vandalism threat though. It is a good point.

They really spruced up the old station. Used to be all gravel around there. I lost my CSX job in Dec 2008; left in 2009.

One reason they probably didn't install a restroom is because of vandalism. Someone would have to be there on a regular basis to clean the restrooms as well.
