When I first read One Hundred Years, the book binder said "if you read any book in your life besides the bible, read this." This is Gabo's biography. He lived this. This was his life in "Maconda." Hard to read perhaps, without the who's who in the family tree of One Hundred Years, but the first lines of the book just grip you by the guts. "Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Col. Buendia was to remember when his father took him to discover ice."
OMG, who writes lke this!
