This is video of the debate between the University of Texas at Austin Chapter of Campaign to End the Death Penalty and Young Conservatives of Texas on January 29, 2007
The debate was in the Oxford style, with alternating speakers from each side debating a resolution that the death penalty be abolished. Each side also had a "questioner" who asked one or two questions from the other side, designed to point to the weaknesses in the opposing side's argument. In the middle of the debate, there was a short break in which audience members made comments and asked questions.
The yays won 114 to 43 on the resolution to Abolish the Death Penalty!
Duration: 75 minutes
@joshbeedham1 Then give them life in solitary.
We change all death penalty blocks into solitary blocks, with each cell having a bed a toilet a shower and nothing else (and the shower is outside controlled) and then 4 wall sided room with 1 door and a ceiling with a small hole which is covered by bars.
Life in Solitary inmates have no other privileges, no books no work in prison no, (actual) yard time and minimal outside contact nothing else

gangs, what does that have to do with anything. psychopaths dont fear death, some even invite it. thats why they are so good at killing. you should watch the ice man interviews, or maybe read about serial killers. Personally I would prefer to die by execution then die in prison or be killed, or even die of a heart attack. Did you know there are people that try to be executed. its a know psychological pathology. You should listen to me, I have personal experience.

Because people dont join Gangs in jail? and some people commit more crimes in jail... I dont think 30 years in prison spent terrorizing other inmates is punishement in comparison to death.

But what if the person joins a gang in jail? starts using drugs? and finds their escape in drugs and crimes in jail....then they are not feeling sorry for what they did to innocent people.

no she is not, unless you are being ironic.

so she said that she wanted the murderer to feel the same pain as the victims. so what do we rape them and then cut them up into little pieces. right what if they are innocent, do we do the same to the people that killed them. she is a moron.
this person is hurting the cause. she is fucking stupid and she should not have be allowed to debate here shoe color.

if someone did that to my family i would want them to die, thats called being human. do i want the state to do it, NO. people smile on death row all the time, it is welcome to most of them. the sweet release of death. actually i would not want them to die. i want them to think about for as long as possible. you want to give them escape, really. you think someone that does that is afraid of death, you are not experienced in the world my friend. loss of freedom is worse then death.

Straight up.... if someone rapped your whole family...then hacked them up and hung their body parts from the street signs around town....you would want that guy dead.
what if he went to jail for life...got in a gang in there..and diddnt completly hate everyday of his life.
I would want the killer of my family to never smile again..you cant smile on death row.
