This is believed to be the oldest Goidellic Irish song known. It's a rowing song, and there are two places that lay claim to origins of the tune. The group of "kidney-shaped" islands off the west coast of Scotland [Arran Islands], and another group of "kidney-shaped" islands off the west coast of Ireland [Aran Islands].

Most believe that the Arran Islands have the best claim to the origins of the tune, since this is also the place believed to be where the Gaelic folk (and the language) settled and eventually spread throughout Ireland and Scotland.

A pretty tune, no matter where your Celtic bloodlines have settled.

  • It's a lot of fun finding ways to make old Celtic tunes new and mysterious using the simple, out of the box, diatonic harmonicas. ... Of course, my little Roland amplifier also helps in that regard. It really helps me when others like it too. Thanks. -- Best regards, KelticDead.
