In March 2007, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the looting of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, the museum's former director Donny George Youkhanna asked the world to pause on April 10-12, 2007 ... light a candle ... and remember the destruction that occurred at the Iraq Museum in April 2004 and is continuing to occur to ancient sites across Iraq and around the world every day.

The first Candlelight Vigil took place on the steps of the Iraq Museum on the morning of April 10th. Over the next few days, dozens of Candlelight Vigils and other events took place at museums, universities, schools and other venues around the world. This five-minute video memorializes those events.

Will you join us for the next Global Candlelight Vigil on April 10-12, 2008?

  • Great video, among all the horrible events that happend to Iraq since the year 2003, to me the worst was the looting of the Iraqi museum, let us insist on getting our heritage back no matter what the cost is and not to forget that looting has never stopped, it is an ongoing process. let us support the Global candlelight vigil and not to stop it until we get all our looted heritage as long as our freedome.
