Some people are fans of programming their music to the nth degree, but sometimes working that way can bog down the creative process. What audio interface and type of computer are you using? I ask because I wanna know if I need a Mac to record my hardware in real time like you just did because that looks like a method I'd prefer to use with my outboard stuff.

Computer wise I'm on a dual-core custom built PC. But you can do the same thing in Logic on a Mac. Just make sure you've got lots of ram and fast hard drives....

Also with Firewire soundcards, they don't like to share the channel with other firewire gear. (or so I've learned on my PC). The Fireface is using the firewire port directly on the motherboard, I have a second firewire card for the Powercore.

In the time it could take to program a track out via midi, it's possible to hammer out 3 different versions of the same couple of loops, and have lots of happy accidents that keep the track insteresting...

That's how I feel too. It's too much work to "program" that live feeling... when we've finally got the hardware to just record and edit later.

I treat my setup like a giant tape deck. usually after a couple of passes... the 'vibe' of the track comes out and i just hit record and do it. Sometimes with a bit of cut&paste editing. But mostly it's just straight to disk.

NICE! I've been thinking about using this method of creating music. I make mostly hip hop and r&b so the music isnt THAT fast lol, but I still get your main point. Great video man! Thanks for opening my eyes to new ways of production.
