Waylon Jennings in his "Johnny Cash Period", produced by friend Buddy Holly. Featuring Buddy on electric guitar and joining some uncredited singers for the back up. King Curtis was in town and on the payroll for a Buddy Holly session, so he helped arrange and added sax to the mix. @1691bhm No, I know the Nighthawk's version.... Their are two other studio tracks of this song... one that is a band track without Waylon's voice... and one that is a different vocal take than this one, which is the version I first heard. It's also on Youtube, check it out.

@1959buddyh ..I think you may be refering to the Nighthawkes version.....but that wasn't Waylon nor Buddy no matter what the album covers might claim. Look up Purple Chick Buddy Holly complete...all the info can be found there with a bit of digging.

The backing vocals were by The Roses but were overdubbed at a later date.

@ZeskoWhirligan This track has better vocals... but would have been better with Buddy Holly singing lead.

@ZeskoWhirligan I agree with you on this particular vocal track. There is a better vocal track that Waylon did than this out there, this is HORRIBLE!
