Waylon Jennings in his "Johnny Cash Period", produced by friend Buddy Holly. Featuring Buddy on electric guitar and joining some uncredited singers for the back up. King Curtis was in town and on the payroll for a Buddy Holly session, so he helped arrange and added sax to the mix. Friend George Atwood played bass and studio drummer Bo Clarke rounded out the session recorded in Clovis New Mexico in September of 1958. Produced by Buddy Holly.

  • man i love this song from waylon usually sang country these were a few of his rock songs after listening to this i was thinking what a party him and buddy must ve having in heaven man i wish i could been back in those days!also got some cool pics of them back then!

  • Gotta get rid of that buzzing at the start and end...ick...

  • Similar as they are, I prefer this to the Nighthawks...nice to hear it again...been too long

  • @1959buddyh ...LOL...Yeah er No, there are SIX studio tracks of this song, 3 with vocals and 3 without.... 'twas ME that posted them from my "imanuglyfrog" channel...come see, best regards, Mark.

  • @1691bhm No, I know the Nighthawk's version.... Their are two other studio tracks of this song... one that is a band track without Waylon's voice... and one that is a different vocal take than this one, which is the version I first heard. It's also on Youtube, check it out.

  • @1959buddyh ..I think you may be refering to the Nighthawkes version.....but that wasn't Waylon nor Buddy no matter what the album covers might claim. Look up Purple Chick Buddy Holly complete...all the info can be found there with a bit of digging.

  • The backing vocals were by The Roses but were overdubbed at a later date.

  • @ZeskoWhirligan This track has better vocals... but would have been better with Buddy Holly singing lead.

  • @ZeskoWhirligan I agree with you on this particular vocal track. There is a better vocal track that Waylon did than this out there, this is HORRIBLE!

  • LOVE IT!!!!
