@AF0093 The reason why I don't shoot wide open with prime lenses is because your image will not come out tack sharp. You'll see softness in it. Close the aperture down a little and you see super shark image. Now if I am in a situation where I need to shoot wide open to get over minimum shutter speed, then it's different but for the most part I'm between f/2.8 - f/4. I can control the bokeh through other ways. So, no you should not be shooting at 1.4 if you have enough light.

@nitro38128 I agree! Where is the lens! I can't find it anywhere! What did you end up getting?

Any reason why you think the 1.8G is sold out everywhere?

@eric1one2003 yeah i ended up getting my money back and found the cheapest 1.8 G i could find in my area since i dont trust buying online.. its a shame in Australia everythings more expensive and the cheapest for the G was $268, but its a hella lot better then the D thats for sure!

@tiffanisvideos Take your 50mm 1.8 D and get your money back. Its only $100 the G is $200.

i had my d5100 several months ago i feel so frustrated because i cant achieve the kind of effect i want for my picture like the bokeh because i am tied down to my kit :( i see through your video that this the kind of lens i need ... how a good lens for zooming... thank you. . . .
Everywhere I go this lens is sold out!!!!! But I do run across the 50mm 1.4g,is it worth the extra money for the 1.4????

@nitro38128 I think for the extra little light it's not worth spending more than double on 1.4G lens. Go for 1.8G instead. It's a very sharp lens.

i just bought the nikon d5100 and bought the 1.8 D 50mm because that is what the guy sold me for 200 dollars (i didnt realise i could of got the latest G ) , what settings do you reccomend having the camera on because ive tried various settings but i cant get it to autofocus, i have to do it manually..and i do not always get the sharpest photos!

@tiffanisvideos Well, like my video says 1.8D lens will not auto focus with D3000, D3100, D5000 or D5100. The lens you need for D5100 is 1.8G with built in AF motor. Go back to the store and exchange it for 1.8G so you can auto focus. 50mm 1.8D lens cost $119 and 1.8G cost $219. This guy ripped you off.

@mynalaka Get 50mm 1.8G for portraits as it would work with D5100. Don't get a zoom lens right now. You probably have a kit lens already. Get a prime lens like 50mm 1.8G if you're getting intro portraits.
