I believe the clip is from New Zealand Idol in 2004.

Appeared in a news report on TVNZ's Campbell Live, about Simon Cowell bowing out of the Idol judging. I've edited so it just features Meryl and a few other bobs and less of the Simon Cowell crap.

@swinnie16 She's right actually. 'Popstars' first began in NZ in 1999 before being licensed to Australia, then sold to Germany before going worldwide. Do a little research, you'll find that the concept and subsequent franchise, definitely started in NZ.
