Psychiatry Drugs Foster Care Children - Aisha

I took my video camera to a Foster Care Alumni meeting and asked seven foster kids to tell me about there experiences in Child Protective Services while wards of the state.

One thing they all had in common was massive over drugging with psychiatric drugs.

Child placement agencies, foster parents, RTCs (Residential Treatment Centers) and Therapeutic Foster Homes get paid a certain amount of money each day for taking care of a foster child. The amount of money they get paid depends on a level of care system. The more difficult the child or the more problems that child has, the more money you get.

A child at the basic level of care is worth about 17 dollars a day where as a child in the highest level of care could be worth as much as a 1000 dollars a day. This puts the incentive on diagnosing children with behavior problems to justify raising their level of care. A child on psychiatric drugs is worth more than a child without problems.

It is not uncommon for a foster child to be placed on many different psychotropic drugs at the same time. Some investigations have found children on as many as 13 mind altering drugs prescribed by a psychiatrists at one time.

These drugs include all categories of psychiatric drugs; antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, anxiety medications, anticonvulsants medications, etc.

The SSRI drugs are commons such as Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, etc. Also a number of these children described taking Risperdal, Zyprexa, Geodon and other new generation antipsychotics which have been linked to weight gain, obesity and diabetes.

I raised a child from age 3-18. He had a lot of problems and I refused all the meds the doctors and schools wanted him on. I had my own history with drugs and was determined to raise a drug free child. Counseling was helpful but it actually helpful in making me a better parent. What a child from this back ground needs more than anything is a ton of individual attention. The child needs to be the most important person to at least one adult. My adopted son is a great 21 year old man now.

I'm sorry that you had to depend on meds to save your life. Its a shame that u dont have the strength to overcome your problems without meds. Same thing hapopened to my husband's sister. She was taken and put in foster care when she was 14 because she kept running away to be with her bf. In foster care the foster parents would make her tak eprecription pills that were not her and they would have men come over and rape her. She had her nose and jaw broken and my husbands parents faught and faughter for 4 years until she turned 18 and was let go.

they tell foster children that their mother doesnt want them- meanwhile the mothers are told they cant visit her own child that she gave birth to because it upsets the child -who cry and beg to go home- capitalism wants to create more problems from birth to death- b/c more problems = more money for merchants & professionals "educated" dictator class-matriarchy clans of grandmothers/mothers/aunts = return to love healthy gardens and SANITY -my apologies to stockmarket and foster Franklin scandal
