Super 8mm Sci-Fi movie made in a drainage ditch in Orange Park, Fl. In the fall of 1976. I recently converted this to DV using my own homemade telecine setup which needs some adjustments obviously! I put it together using Pinnacle Software Studio 9. also just for fun you'll notice I added some 21st century digital laser effects for this using some frame grabs and adding the lasers with Paint shop Pro 9 and reinserting them back in to the film. Not perfect but it works for a film like this. Also created a new soundtrack using only Propellerhead Reason and adapting the "Mars" symphony by Holst so nobody could say I stole their music for this! It came out better than I expected but I tried to keep a sort of 70's synth sound in there too for a little cheesy effectAnyway, hopefully Mike and Ken will see this out there ,where ever you guys are now after 30 yrs, and get a good laugh!Remember how much fun this was at the time? :)

  • BRILLIANT! I don't know which was better, the synthesizery version of "Mars" or the emulsion-scratched lasers! I made a bunch of Super 8 stuff back in the 80's, myself. Did you ever read Cinemagic magazine?

  • LOL Yes Sir Read Cinemagic even before Starlog bought it when the Don Dohler ran it. That was really the only thing out there in those days for kids like us! Well there was Super 8 Filmaker but they rarely considered budget SF movies as being worth writing about. Unfortunately Don Dohler died sometime last year I believe after a long illness.Sad :(

  • I wondered what the bright light was in the movie, then realised it was the projector light. Would you be able to do it again without the light?

  • Yeah it's the "hot Spot" of the projector bulb. I've tried making a flying image optical printer from a condenser lens and front-silvered mirror. I found out I need a dimmer bulb and a diffuser between the bulb and film gate. This will take some time. I thought flicker would have been the real problem but it hasn't . Thanks

  • I think this is a CLASSIIC. I,m so jealous. If you want to see my effort for fans of this sort of stuff search HOW TO MAKE A SPFX FEATURE FILM FOR $2000 . Please dont delet as spam.

  • how did you origanly have the lasers... did you draw them into the film?

  • I will actually admit this was seriously entertaining.

    I'm rather jelous.

  • Love it! Did you plug this in Cinemagic? I seem to remember a "production note" listing your film. Check out my youtube videos for a couple of Super 8 epics from the same era.

  • Honestly, Its more entertaining than that stupid Transformers movie

  • Nice to see that my best bud and I were not the ONLY ones making Super 8 masterpieces...tho yours here is MUCH more impressive than what WE threw together!...;)
