This was the first music video I worked on, and what an
experience! It was at Isleworth Studios (I think - it was so long
ago) and directed by Steve Barron, who was a very nice guy
and (unknown to him) an inspiration to those of us fresh out
of film school.
And what a queen Boy George was (in the nicest possible way) !
I remember his having some kind of argument with someone (the
drummer?) and declaring "You're such a woman!" which struck
me as ironic in a number of ways.
This video should have been so much better. We went to a lot
of effort lining up shots using an MX50 mixer on set (but we
still needed that chinagraph pencil!) but I think in the end they
ran out of money or something. It has a certain charm now,
but any schoolboy with iEdit (or whatever) could do a better job.
In those days you had to get it right In Camera. The
rotoscoping is laughable! Or maybe it's meant to be like that...
Fun (and so very strange) to see it again now.
