Kevin Jennings and Joseph Mazzola discuss how a negative school climate effects students' ability to learn. Physical and emotional safety in school climates are the base from which we can build upon to create a more positive community and nation. Character education is a comprehensive and fundamental strategic approach to improve our nation's schools and strengthen the integrity of our democracy.

Kevin Jennings currently holds office as the Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools at the Department of education. Joseph Mazzola is the Executive Director of Character Education Partnership (CEP).

CEP is a national advocate and leader for the character education movement. Based in Washington, DC, we are a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian coalition of organizations and individuals committed to fostering effective character education in our nation's schools.
