I bought a 1979 RM400 brand new when I was 15 years old. I couldn't even touch the ground without leaning way over. I still own the bike and have loved it since day one.

I can't believe how long Roger DeCoster has been involved in racing. He's with KTM now, the first time I can remember him being involved with a European factory since his CZ days in the late 60's.
What an incredible career.

back then, the bikes were developed so much each year, you HAD to get on the new bike each year or you would get left behind. these days, they are just making the number plates smaller and harder to read each year, and adding a few gimmicks like wave rotors to keep people interested. its a tribute to japans declining economy. they cant afford to develop the bikes like they used to.

@avzeolla the main reason they were cheaper was because of the exchange rate with the japanese yen. back then it was about 300 yen to the US dollar. today, its 81 yen to the dollar.

i wonder how much they cost. i remember when the 80's were $899. that was early 80's !

This guy was the Team Coach of the last United States Motocross Des Nations, he said he remembered the United States 1st Appearance at the Motocross Des Nations & how none of the other countries took the USA team very serious & how France & Belgium really thought they were something & guys like Donnie Hansen, Danny LaPorte, Chuck Sun & Johnny O’Mara just went out & Ran the F-- AWAY WITH THE WINS....

O yes the sound of the two strokes! This was the year Honda got it going again in motocross and the next several years they were unstopable! Great vid.
