700 more ebay employees AXED under the regime of ebay's CEO John J. Donahoe:

E-commerce giant eBay is closing its Metro Vancouver customer-service office and cutting about 700 jobs...

The office, located in Burnaby, will be closed by Sept. 30 as the company tries to capture efficiencies ...

When eBay opened the 70,000-square-foot centre in 2003, it lauded the Lower Mainlands attributes to serve what was a burgeoning online marketplace.

Meg Whitman, eBays CEO at the time the centre opened, said eBay picked Burnaby out of 100 possible sites because of the regions skilled and educated workforce and its quality of life.

Were excited about Burnaby, Whitman said during an August 2003 visit to the Willingdon centre, we couldnt be happier coming here.

EBay has also had its struggles with a tougher economy, having reported lower profits on slower sales, mostly from its online selling services.

The company reported a $357-million US profit in the first quarter of 2009, which represented a 22-per-cent decline from the $460-million profit it earned in the same quarter a year ago.

  • Someone brought it to the attention to the Office of Ebay Pres that there were employees inside the Burnaby office that were breaking/changing rules for certain ebay members. These certain ebay members were X-empoloyees and/or relatives of employees. I even think police reports were filed against some of them. Less than 2 weeks after signature confirmation receipt of the info...ebay announces Burnaby office closing. How convenient.

  • Interesting that you should bring this up. I know of one person who worked for the Burnaby office and she said that there was a major security flaw within the site, of which many other employees knew about. I now have to wonder, since the engineering department did nothing to curtail the security problem, if employees became contemptuous in seeing just how far they could go with it? It would make sense as to why some employees became more tainted than others, i.e., your post entry.

  • (I ran out of room... here's the balance)

The security flaw I spoke about dates back to the summer of 2006 when I was made aware of it by the Burnaby employee. Keep in mind that the flaw wasn't isolated to Burnaby, nor British Columbia, but globally... worldwide. I also know for a fact that there are corrupt employees working out of the San Jose office, as my powerseller rep at the time here in Canada suggested I litigate on a matter concerning the security flaw and specifically 3 employees.

  • They have had a lot more layoffs than have been widely publicized. Back in around march there were more, there were also more at higher levels, I believe I read somewhere that some legal dept employees also got the boot. LOL
