the stove is not fully installed yet i am going to put up something to shied the tarp from the heat and make a flange so that the stove pipe dose not touch the plywood. we have only had very very small attended fires in it and it works fine.
also this shanty is not meant to be lived in for more than a week at a time, and is only designed to last five years by than we hope to have a real cabin built, i expect to change the tarp from time to time.

  • how did that cost 250 was it wood ? becouse it would cost 75 down here including tarp

  • @meadechandler1 yes, the wood nails and screws where 200 and the tarp was 50 i used 10-2x4x8s 9-2x4x10s 14-2x3x8s and 3 sheets of plywood plus the tarp. it adds up 10fts where not that cheep. i could have used OSB plywood and saved 20 bucks but i don't like that stuff.

  • That's just a glorified tent.

  • I'd be surprised if your tarp lasts more than a year. UV, weather, leaves etc will eat it up in a hurry. Check out FarmTek for some good deals on closeouts, random pieces of heavy duty covering. Get the free shipping and you can score some great deals. I have a portable 10x10 ft. camping/fishing/hunting shelter I made out of EMT pipe and is awesome. One of these days I'll have to do up a video. Very easy to build a strong portable shelter cheap for less than $250.

  • The "triangle things" are basically wood gussets.

  • Gee, and I thought I'd never be able to retire.

Before long, this will be the typical US household.

At least you would not need a mortgage!

  • Cover the tarp with heavy black plastic. Do you have a air inlet to keep enough air inside the tent?

  • You need to camo that bright blue would be pretty easy to spot

  • nice

  • i hope your anchored to the ground ,heavy winds might blow ya down.

  • @papaJodes That's the point though, with that big a stove in that small a space its gonna be like 80 degrees even in the winter. You want that excess heat to go up and keep the tarp warm so the snow never accumulates and rolls off. After a foot of snow that tarp would be flexing badly and would be are great risk to break in if it was insulated.

  • Nice stuff
