Vietnam veteran Navy pilot Durban Hartel got a chance to revisit his old plane in which he flew MANY missions in Vietnam. (not the actual plane, but one just like it)
The footage was shot by his son and Desert Storm veteran Andrew Hartel. We were given the raw footage to just basically transfer to DVD, but took it a step further and did some editing.
I (Eric) did the whole production myself, but understand that we have a "silver bullet" in S. David Acuff of Davidian Films http://www.youtube.com/filmstudentusa when things need to go "over the top".
Enjoy, and remember to thank members of our armed forces as soon as you see them. Whether you agree with what they do or not, we enjoy every day the freedoms they afford us!

  • This was the SUV version of the Skyraider, it could be fitted for electronic warfare and other special tasks. Side by side was good for training VNAF S. Vietnam pilots. Extra seat was used in a famous Vietnam rescue.

  • A great tribute!!! A job well done!!

  • Ive had a chance to fly in this same skyraiders several times it really makes you think of the men who never made it back in their skyraiders

  • @Astraeus1 The people who fought and died for our nation whether it be in the defense of our native soil or in assistance of an allies deserve better from you. The reason you can have a descending opinion and are able to voice it is because of these people. If you've got a problem with the politics of this or any other military action then question the decision makers because soldiers follow orders they don't make policy. This was a comment about an aircraft and her pilots.

  • She's beautiful!

What was USN aviation community thinking, putting a 3rd & 4th seat on a smoking hot ground attack aircraft? Here I was assuming that all those useless guys-in-back were not worth their box lunch; skylarks that are a waste of fuel necessary to haul them aloft.

  • @Modelairplaneguy um, what? This plane is fucking ugly. No swooping lines, no bubble canopy. No the era before these were far more impressive.

  • @jeffvanark please explain what was US defending in Vietnam?

  • What an excellent tribute to the pilots who flew these aircraft in defense of our nation.

  • Thanks for the memories. My father was a A1-h Driver with the Hobos out of Nahkon Phanom Thailand. He was Squadron Commander of the 1st Spec Ops squadron and he now in his late 80's. It was great to show this to him. Thanks Again.
