Have you ever wondered what the word "stoic" meant? The unmoving man in the red jacket will demonstrate...

This brickfilm was created on the spur of the moment. Material Possessions had been completed for a few weeks and I had nothing to animate on a Saturday morning. I decided to experiment with white expances. This eventually turned into an experiment in widescreen, as well, and I shot a few clips featuring the Stoic Man (as he has become called). I soon compiled these clips together and shot a few more to tie them together. Stoic was born. Stoic also eventually led to the creation of the Dictionary Series.

  • The ancient Stoics are often misunderstood because the terms they used pertained to different concepts in the past than they do today. The word stoic has come to mean unemotional or indifferent to pain, because Stoic ethics taught freedom from passion by following reason. But the Stoics did not seek to extinguish emotions, only to avoid emotional troubles by developing clear judgment and inner calm through diligent practice of logic, reflection, and concentration.

  • @Hypastpist that will be my catchphrase from no one. Thank you sir.

  • So thats....... wait wat?!

  • "Not a single fuck was given that day"

  • This is actually the cynicism philosophy, but good try tough. Stoicism and cynicism are quite similar, the latter preaches that we should focus only in the things in our power, and disregard everything not in power (Epictetus) on the other hand, the former would disregard all conventions and traditions in society worthless when confronted with virtue.

  • @miles305678

    And body conditioning as well.

  • This was well done.Philosophy and literature aside, people always told me I acted stoic. The mawkish would accuse me of showing no emotion. So much for not wetting your pants and blubbering in public. What passes for emotion is sometimes fleeting, manipulative,or just plain tawdry.Little kids turn on the waterworks to get what they want. Some obviously never outgrow it.

  • wtf

  • @Soldierman870 i agree. and just love the TAO. (Yin-Yang) Shanti!!

  • This was inspired by a beatmaniaIIDX song.

  • what i see here is just wrong and puts stoics into a bad position. Especially the last scene with the girl being chased and shot does not show how a "true stoic" would react. He would try to save her, but he wouldnt feel any emotional pain if he failed.

Yes for a stoic life means nothing but he wouldnt just stand still and do nothing in such a moment but he would be emotional unaffected.
