High gas prices are pushing some drivers to trade their four wheels in for two.

Motorcycles are known for their fuel efficiency -- some bikes can get up to 80 miles per gallon -- and shops around the metro are reporting an uptick in sales.

"Between 15 miles per gallon (for a car) and 80 miles per gallon (for a motorcycle), I'm hoping to save a lot," said Shelley McCoskey, who is switching to a motorcycle as her daily mode of transportation.

"Gas is crazy. I remember it was 76 cents a gallon when I first started driving. It's hard for, especially for single parents," McCoskey told KMBC's Marcus Moore.

"It's pushing everybody toward that direction. I definitely sold some motorcycles over the past few weeks specifically for commuter purposes and that's it," salesman Chris Thacker said.

Moore reported that during his visit at Donnell's Honda and Suzuki in Independence, the shop sold at least two motorcycles.
