Beethoven - Symphony No. 5 in C minor: I. Allegro con brio

Rare live performance of Beethoven's Fifth recorded in the course of the Harnoncourt's music festival Styriarte in 2007, never officially released.

As much as I liked Harnoncourt's '91 Beethoven cycle, I always thought the Fifth from that set lacked the fire and grit Harnoncourt is so well-known for. This version has it all: Harnoncourt's Beethoven grew ever fierier as he got older, just like Abbado's.

Cool! Is your mother Marieke Blankesteijn? I also have this recording at home, on minidisc, it was broadcast at oe1, which I receive via sattelite dish. Great recording! Harnoncourt is the best.
