Steve Earle - Feel Alright (w/Lyrics)

Feel Alright
(Steve Earle)

I was born my papa's son
A wanderin' eye and a smokin' gun
Now some of you would live through me
Lock me up and throw away the key
Or just find a place to hide away
Hope that I'll just go away
I feel alright -- I feel alright tonight

I'll bring you precious contraband
And ancient tales from distant lands
Of conquerors and concubines and
Conjurers from darker times
Betrayal and conspiracy
Sacrilege and heresy

I got every thing you wont or need
Your darkest fear, your fondest dream
I ask you questions, tell you lies
Criticize and sympathize
Be careful what you wish for friend
Because I've been to hell and now I'm back again

I feel alright -- I feel alright tonight (x2)

And i feel alright, feel alright

  • This song is like a shot of adrenalin, thank you PietRock85! Very much appreciated!

  • @harrasin Welcome! Could only found the live version and didn't really like it that much as the album version, bit of a shitty quality and a lame crowd :)

  • Love this song, I'm only here because of the Wire, but it's good TV that's introduced me to great music! Or is that amazing TV that introduced me to brilliant music?

  • don't know what it is, the groove I guess reminds me of Gloria by Van Morrison great guitar work Steve

  • @MrTubby24

That is old news - she admitted that she was a fan and had unintentionally used the melody. Yet she gave him co-writer credits when it was pointed out (no lawsuit necessary). I am not a Miranda fan, but don't think this is a blot on her integrity.

  • @harrasin Makes me wish I was driving Ricky Bobby's dads 70' chevelle ;)

  • @MrTubby24 There's no doubt. I was about to say the same till i read your comment.

  • @PietRock85

No problem - It is a great picture!

  • @nilradem Yeah sorry guys, wasn't aware of all the history so indeed just chose a picture that looked cool :)

  • @oetlul

I figured you might have been assuming this was later. Not sure why the person posting chose this picture... except that it is a great one. (And Steve wasn't looking his best in 1996 - he gained a lot of weight when he first got off the drugs.) This is one of the first songs Earle wrote after getting clean... the first was "Goodbye."

  • @nilradem Thanks for the info. Didn't know this was from 1996. I saw the pic of Earle with the Ginsbergian beard and assumed the song was from one of his latest albums or something.

  • @oetlul

I expect Earle and Westerberg are fans of each other, and know Steve has talked about being a Replacements fan - but this came out in 1996, well before Westerberg's later work, so if there is a direct influence it goes the other way,

  • Anyone noticed how fcking much this sounds like Paul Westerbergs' later work? Songs as well as production. Listen to Westerbergs' song 'Sparks' (v=kHBuf22wRAI) and 'Dirty Diesel' (v=XKx3yYjluPg) . By the way: I don't care about the resemblence, since Earle rocks as hard as Westerberg. And the more adreline boosting music the better.
