Allot of those licks actually come from Florida A&M. Check out some cadences called "7" or "Short Order" and "Prelude."

The PV McFunk Box was originated around 1977-1978 when I was there at PV. A group of guys who were the best started this tradition and beleive it or not these cadences are over 30 years old. Go McFunk Box.
