Based on Psalm 19:14, the lyrics to this song go like this:

May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You, pleasing to You
May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You, my God

You're my rock and my redeemer
You're the reason that I sing
I desire to be a blessing in Your eyes
Every hour, every moment
Lord, I want to be Your servant
I desire to be a blessing in Your eyes
In Your eyes

The first 13 verses of the Psalm extol the glory of God as revealed in both His creation and in His law. His creation reveals His awesome power, His law reveals His righteousness.

Then verse 14 is the reaction of the faithful man to verses 1-13. Lord, in light of Your power and righteousness, help me please You with both my words and with what I dwell on in my thoughts.

With regards to His righteousness, know that we're all ultimately evaluated by that holy law of His. His commandments - to have no other God's, to not use His name in vain, to not murder (or even hate), to not lie, to not commit adultery (or even to look with lust), to not steal or covet, etc. - are the standard by which we must live if we are to please Him.

Of course, if we're humble and honest, we can admit that we have sinned and fall short of this. Yet in His great love He sent His one and only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who died receiving your punishment for your sins. If you will but repent - humbly acknowledge and turn from your sinning - and trust in Jesus, that He is the Son of God and that He rose from the dead, He will forgive and save you. He will also give you His Holy Spirit, and the Spirit will strengthen you to live a changed life, doing those things which are pleasing in His sight.

Then you'll understand deeply what it is to cry out to Him with the words of a song like this.

  • wait what is the title of this song? and who is it by

  • "Psalm 19" is actually the title of the song. It's from one of Vineyard Music's "Touching the Father's Heart" songbooks. I can't think of the writer's name offhand...

  • Terry Butler

  • Yeah, that's right. I think he has a brother and they wrote a bunch of these songs back in the 90s. Randy maybe?
