some dude told me to look at this to see why metaknight is banned from tourneys, and honestly i dont get it, hes banned becuase "high lvl" players like these 2 only camped and spammed till the other gave out. mk shouldnt be banned becuase not everyone who legitly mains him is a campy spammy excuse of a slack player :/

One thing i never understood about tourneys, how hard is it to say "if you do this and that with this or that character your disqaulified"

@MrQwertymang Hello there! I have to say this is only one of many examples of metaknight using this technique. Inspite of that being apart of the big argument (him being played in this style), not noting his tornado, ability to fight off stage, and recovery as an unfair advantage is just not fair in itself. I have witnessed top players from my region (Florida) lose to players of way less fighting skill. With metaknight gone people feel good and have an idea of how to gauge who's better. IMO.

@manofgames4555 And the Florida top players were beaten by MK hmm? Does that matter? They could just as well have went up against another character that their character is even worse against.

MK does have even match-ups btw.

Also, my opinion on Meta-ban is neutral. I don't main him so idgaf. I just like putting up counter-arguments lol.

@Stalkercopters You and I are alike in liking to put up counter arguments and not maining metaknight. All things are possible in any situation. I can beat someones metaknight with jigglypuff or ganondorf for that matter "potentially". Just weighing in my experience with the game (playing before it officially came out) and considering tools each character has as opposed to the topic of skill. Smash is a game of positioning your opponent off the stage. Who does it better? MK

If you think that in the last 3 years the pro community was just blinded by the stigma of metaknight and that he isn't really that good, then you are deluded. Yes you will beat people who play MK. No, you will not beat people who play MK for money, know what to do, and are willing to lower themselves to do it. M2K does not enjoy gliding from ledge to platform and camping in eight minute increments But it wins. Without fail. This is no longer subjective.

Secondly, the "play until you're better than them" argument is problematic. There are notable examples of low tiers coming out of nowhere and doing well because of dedicated mains. Sometimes it's because people aren't familiar with playing against a character and you are. Sometimes the character is just good and nobody knew how to bring it. Sometimes, you aren't playing someone in your weight class. It is almost always the former or the latter.

@leelue7 i seriously hope your not a competitive player, or at the least an american competitive player, that type of mindset is gonna keep mk looking like hes some god becuase you aren't working to be better at beating an mk. fyi i main mk and i get chewed out for that, i still take names with low teirs like falcon, get @ me. i also have no prob shutting down mks, its not hard when you know who you're playing and asses their style to your advantage. mk being banned changes nothing imo.

@leelue7 the way i see it is, if you(IN GENERAL) OR GOING TO BITCH AND COMPLAIN ABOUT METAKNIGHT and play at tournies your a lost cuase, that means your not getting yourself up to par to compete with metaknights, if an oli can body a metaknight and a diddy that are supposed top level whats stoping any other charcater.(apex) the fact is americans are jhoning to hard over mk and making us all look bitch made compared to japan, step up or shutup imo. if u cant beat any mks quit brawl...

But

Instituting a move-limit ban is impossible for two reasons.

One: A judge would have to watch and count every time anyone did a move.

Two: Metaknight can circumvent this by doing other 100% safe options until he bypasses your limit. No matter what it is.

The tornado is incredibly safe to the point of being unreasonable. You can beat the two moves you mentioned with more than prayer, unlike nado.

Cross stage chain grabs are terrible for the game, but those are at least isolated among matchups.

MK has the same number of jumps as DDD, but he can glide (more than once and much faster than many characters can keep up with) and he has four other incredibly safe recovery moves (one of which can kill you outright). He monopolizes.

M2K was campy and gay in this match for two reasons: 1) The game's design encourages it to an extent. 2) Gnes wasn't even slightly aggressive. He just sat back and shot nuts. It's like both of them were lazy as fuck.

If Melee and 64 didn't exist, no one would even consider Brawl as a competitive game.
