Pure class on all fronts!

Karen's deep alto tones and voice was absolutely incredible,,,,no doubt about it,,,,but let's not forget that Richard played an "instrumental" role in composing and arranging their music. Alone Karen was incredible: together they were unmatched.
-
She puts her hand on his shoulder and says "Together", is quite ironic because Karen had a solo album shelved by Richard. Karen knew when to leave.
-
It just pains me to think of how much more beautiful music we could have had from her :) x

Richard was not planning on re-recording "Someday;" in the liner notes to "From the Top," he wrote that Karen was especially pleased to re-record at least a portion of Someday, since she was not happy with the original recording made in 1969 for the Offering album (later re-titled Ticket to Ride).

@pennymusicMAma Richard commented that he and Karen were considering re-recording "Someday"...based on this Medley...I can hear how Richard and Karen would've done it...
-
I remember hearing them on my parents 8 track back in the 70's and still a carpenter fan after all these years.

@paulmanic You are right. She puts her hand on his shoulder, they are smiling, and she sings, "so much of life ahead..." *Tears*
I've been a huge fan of the Carpenters for almost two decades (and I'm only in my 20s!) but watching this on a quiet Saturday afternoon brought tears. That final close-shot of Karen and Richard singing 'We've Only Just Begun', the specially recorded version for this TV special, and knowing what happened to that lovely woman only 3 years later is too much. Thank you so much for posting this show.

Love the music. The blending of voices, arrangements and gee the fact that everyone dressed up for the event. Most of the entertainers today look like they just got dressed to work out in the yard and found their way on stage. The Carpenters were always a class act. Thanks for posting.
