@r2itos US policies in central America had NOTHING to do with why this gang started. MOST of the immigrants that landed in LA were refugees from a nasty earthquake in El Salvador in the 80's. Reagan brought them in and gave them temporary work visas. Then when the visas were to expire, Reagan granted them AMNESTY and allowed them to stay in the US. Salvadorians flooded in to the US legally and illegally at that point. Im sure there were ALOT of war refugees also, but it doesnt mean THATS why the

@r2itos The neighborhood that they settled into, mainly just to the west of downtown LA was surrounded by Mexican gangs that preyed on Salvadorians in many different ways. The Salvadorians created their own gang to protect themselves from the Mexicans AS WELL AS TO EARN MONEY through criminal pursuits. Most of the were uneducated and came here poor as shit. They had no problem becoming criminals and preying on the citizens of the very country that gave them amnesty. The gang grew from there.
