AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIEF T. A. ORJI (OCHENDO), GOVERNOR ABIA STATE, ON THE OCCASION OF THE COMMISSIONING OF ROAD PROJECTS: 1) WORLD BANK-AGBAMA ROAD, AND UMUAFAI-LODU-AHIAEKE ROAD, HOLDING AT UMUAFAI-WORLD BANK-AGBAMA ROAD JUNCTION; 2) OKWUTA-ISIEKE ROAD,
DISTINGUISHED LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!
It is my pleasure to be here today, to perform this commissioning ceremony for some of the road projects we recently completed for our people of Abia State. For me, and beyond the road commissioning ceremony, this is just another occasion for me to reaffirm my burning desire and faith with Abians, in the service of our dear State.
It is also an opportunity for me to reassure you that I will continue doing what I promised Abians that I will do for the State -- which is laying the foundation for the sustainable development of the economic, social and infrastructures of Abia State.
We consider the rebuilding of our roads and the opening of new ones, as key to our infrastructural development drive, and we will, despite the early rains, pursue with utmost vigor, our on-going road constructions in Abia North, Abia Central and Abia South zones, and all the places where our contractors have already been mobilized.
The following roads have already been completed or work on-going:
Old Express by Samek Road
Aba Owerri rd/ Oceanic Bank/Rail crossing
Igwebuike street/ Methodist
UBE by Jubilee road
Obikabia/Isiala Ngwa Express Junction
Ukwu Mango/Faulks road
East by Water side
Dualization of Umuahia/ Bende road
Umuahia ring road of ten connected road/Mbom
Umukabia Ohuhu/Ugwu Nkpa road
Mgbacha Ossah road
Obolo/ Ikwuano Umuahia road
Umuahia/Uzuakoli/Ohafia Rehabilitation, etc
I enjoin everyone to ensure the proper use of these roads, and avoid encroachments, littering and blockage of drainages.
While we will continue to focus on more roads reconstruction, the cynics among our people will never see anything new in the drives we are making to stabilize and move Abia State to the next level of infrastructural and economic progress.
They will say that nothing is new, that we have not done enough, and that we do not have the required magic formula. But that is all politics!
But I am sure that if you look around and review the ugly past, you will certainly see what we are doing for our people. Our Administration knows what to do to improve the lives of Abians and will not be distracted. I am certain that all the perceived problems will soon yield to the sincere effects of our sustained efforts and attacks, to reach viable solutions.
I will like to reassure all Abians, that: with all the strength and all the experience I have gained from my life and interactions with even unrepentant despots in our State politics; with all the confidence my family, friends, the clergy in our society, and my dedicated staff have impacted on me; and the loyalty and good will that many Abians continue to show towards my Administration; it is important for me to use this forum to reaffirm the promise I made to Abians, last May 29th, 2011.
I promised Abians to continue to do what is right, and what is best for them, during this second tenure as your Governor. God helping me, I will not let you down!.
It is informative to say to all of you, that my total experience in the governance of our State, has made me fully aware that it takes strength in life to make strength, it takes several fights for principles to make fortitude, it takes crisis to give courage, and it takes singleness of purpose to reach an objective. We have and will continue to do all these.
I can tell you with all emphasis, that the main objective of the Government of Abia State under Ochendo, is to go down in the history of Abia State, as one which finally understood what needed to be done for Abians, and had the self-discipline and resolve to move above selfish considerations, to reach the objectives and lay the sustainable foundation for others to follow.
This is the task of my Government until 2015 comes! I know that Abians, even the cynics will feel the effect and the difference in their lives.
