  • Is it okay to use medical grade rubbing alcohol that's 10 months past its expiration date?

  • @HedgehogKnight

Your medical grade alcohol should still work just fine for this cleaning, even when past the expiration date by just ten months.

You only might not want to use it for medical purposes.

  • @Watcher3223 It's no more to be worried. It works.I taken out the DVD plate.

  • @bacovia2004

Are you able to provide video and pictures of what's going on?

  • @Watcher3223 That large one moves easily, and the little one that ensures the PS2 the tray is closed moves normally, and the belt was replaced. The problem is the drive that does not move up when i move the tray (that big one where you put the disk and reads SONY).

  • @bacovia2004

The only things I can ask would be:

    1. Is the mechanism in proper sync? With the drawer open, make sure that white post that sticks out a little from that white sliding gear that moves the drive up and down is in the groove underneath the drawer. If it's not, then the sliding gear may engage well before it's supposed to when the drawer moves.

    2. Is the belt still good? It's underneath a black plastic cover. You may need to remove the drawer to get to the cover and remove it.

  • @Watcher3223 My bad. There are two,one smaller that looks like this:(I) and the drawer. The problem is that the drawer does not move when i close the CD tray.

  • @bacovia2004

If that "little white thing" is what I think it is, then it may be part of a larger white plastic piece that moves the drive up after the drawer is closed and down before the drawer opens.

This piece is mechanically triggered by the drawer. The white piece is supposed to have a protruding knob on top that rides in a groove underneath the drawer on the right side (PS2 facing you). I'm thinking it's possible that this knob has broken off from using the slide card for disc swapping.

  • @Watcher3223 Can you help me about this?

So,i bought from a electronics store a blue 50003 PS2.After some times of using my slide card the tray would make a screeching noise.I opened it,then i seen when i close the tray, the optical drive(that with the lens and spindle),would not get up,and i would have to use my finger to push a little white thing to get it up,but if i open it back and close it,the same problem remains. What should i do?(the guarantee sticker was peeled off,as the PS2 was used)

    Good job.

Yeah, there will be parts that may wear out, such as that gear.

But, also, lack of lube on the rails can cause the same problem. It may also lead to an acceleration of the troughs being chewed into the teeth.
