Located in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado outside Silverton, Picayune and Placer Gulch trail is an easy 4x4 excursion that gets you into the beautiful mining backroads of Colorado. It begins just outside of Silverton and ends in the ghost town of Animas Forks. This video reduced an hour long ride into 10 minutes, so much had to be edited for time. You pass many old mills, mines and boardinghouses along the way and experience backroad Colorado at high altitude.

  • Beautiful video it has been a while sense i have seen one of your videos it was fantastic hope you have a great new year*****

  • @murcster1 Thank you, yes, it's been a long time since I've made any videos. Haven't been able to offroad as much lately. Hopefully will get some good trails in this summer! Happy New Year!

  • Nice vid. You should consider upgrading to HD cams. Brings a lot more details.

  • @conek2 Thank you! I have a HD camera but it doesn't work for this application. HD cameras have a CMOS chip, which has a rolling shutter and produces a warbling effect when you move while recording. Therefore, the only type of camera that works strapped to a moving car is one with a CCD chip, which is only standard DV. Besides, I don't want to risk a $1500 camera strapped to the top of my Jeep. The cam gets VERY dusty & filthy. Hopefully one day the technology will catch up so I can use HD.

  • Awesome, wonderful stuff!

By the way, the horizon remains remarkably steady, even when the camber of the track changes. How does your camera mount work? Does it have some sort of gimbal(s)?

  • Always enjoy your posts and visited a few of the sites based on them. Looks like a little off-camber section at about 1:35.
